The transformational gathering that happens every two years
Boom Festival is unlike any other music event in Portugal—or the world. Held every two years at Herdade da Matinha near Idanha-a-Nova, this week-long psychedelic trance and transformational festival has become a global phenomenon, attracting conscious travelers and music lovers from over 150 countries.
When: Late July/Early August (biennial - every 2 years, typically 7 days) Where: Herdade da Matinha, Idanha-a-Nova, Castelo Branco (Central Portugal) Capacity: 40,000 Genres: Psychedelic trance, experimental, world music, ambient
Boom Festival transcends the typical music festival experience. While psychedelic trance music pulses 24/7 across multiple stages (Dance Temple, Sacred Fire, Alchemy Circle, Groovy Beach, and Chill-Out Gardens), the festival is equally known for its art installations, workshops, yoga sessions, lectures on consciousness, permaculture demonstrations, and healing practices.
Boom is a zero-waste festival and a leader in sustainable event management. The entire event runs on renewable energy, all materials are recyclable or compostable, and the festival has won numerous awards for its environmental initiatives. Attendees actively participate in keeping the grounds clean and learning about sustainable living.
The festival site centers around a beautiful lake where attendees can swim and cool off. The natural amphitheater created by surrounding hills provides stunning acoustics and views. As the sun rises over the lake while psychedelic trance plays, it creates moments of transcendence that Boomers (festival attendees) cherish forever.
Boom attracts a diverse, international community united by values of peace, love, respect, and transformation. People arrive as strangers and leave as family. The festival's ethos emphasizes personal growth, environmental awareness, and creating a better world. Many attendees call it a life-changing experience.
